N-O-T and INDEPTH: Empowering Youth to Quit Nicotine for Good

The Nassau County Coalition for Community Health is proud to offer two impactful programs N-O-T (Not On Tobacco®) and INDEPTH (Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education,
Prevention, Tobacco, and Health)—to support teens in overcoming nicotine addiction and fostering healthier lifestyles.

N-O-T (Not On Tobacco®)

N-O-T is a comprehensive program designed to help teens quit smoking or vaping by addressing the psychological and physical aspects of nicotine dependence. Through engaging group support, participants develop personalized strategies to manage stress, resist peer pressure, and maintain a tobacco- and vape-free lifestyle. Backed by over 20 years of research, N-O-T boasts high success rates, with 97% of participants finding the program helpful and teens being twice as likely to quit compared to those receiving only advice or brochures.

INDEPTH

INDEPTH offers a supportive alternative to suspension or citation for students who violate school tobacco or vaping policies. This four-session program educates participants about the dangers of nicotine dependence, promotes healthier alternatives, and equips them to make lasting changes. Sessions cover topics such as nicotine’s effects, strategies to quit, and
planning for a healthier future. Notably, 60% of participants express readiness to quit after completing the program.

Both programs provide certified facilitators trained by the American Lung Association and can be implemented in schools, youth groups, or community settings. Together, N-O-T and INDEPTH empower Nassau County’s youth to quit nicotine, develop resilience, and lead healthier, substance-free lives.
