Program Objectives
The Know the Law program is based on an evidence-based curriculum created to educate Florida students about the laws governing their communities. Research shows that increasing awareness of legal consequences reduces youth engagement in unlawful activities. By participating in this program, youth are empowered to make safe, informed decisions that contribute to a healthy and successful life.
Key Features
The 2nd Edition (© 2023) Know the Law Manual includes a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation and detailed teaching notes to guide facilitators in delivering an impactful workshop. The curriculum covers essential topics such as substance use, bullying, theft, and safe decision- making. Facilitators collaborate with local schools and community groups to tailor presentations to the unique needs of their audience.
Why It Matters
This initiative addresses youth substance misuse in Nassau County. Data shows:
  • 59 tobacco-related cases at Yulee High School (2021-2022)
  • 14.9% of students rode with a marijuana-impaired driver
  • 1.5% of students reported arrests in the past year.

The Know the Law program aims to reverse these trends by:
  • Training School Resource Officers (SROs) as facilitators
  • Providing ongoing support and materials for consistent delivery countywide
