About Us

Transforming Our Community Through Partnership and Purpose

The Nassau County Coalition for Community Health, supported by the Community Coalition Alliance (CCA), serves as a driving force of change and empowerment for residents of Nassau County. With the steadfast goal of creating a healthier, safer community, Nassau County Coalition has grown into an essential local resource that combines evidence-based practices with a uniquely personal, community-centered approach.

Our Mission and Vision

At the core of Nassau County Coalition lies a simple yet powerful mission:

“Empowering the community through shared education and resources for a healthier and safer Nassau County.”

This mission fuels our efforts as we collaborate with a diverse network of partners. Our vision of a collaborative, unified community is one where individuals and families are equipped with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to lead fulfilling, substance-free lives.

What We Do

We believe that the best way to make a lasting impact is by working together. This is why our
coalition involves all 13 recognized community sectors, including healthcare, education, law
enforcement, and community organizations. Our approach is comprehensive and data-driven, ensuring that our initiatives resonate deeply and are effective in tackling local challenges. Nassau County Coalition ’s accomplishments speak volumes about our commitment and effectiveness:

  • Preventive Outreach and Education: Our programs are strategically designed to foster early prevention and mental well-being among youth. We recognize that substance use prevention and mental health are inherently connected. Through educational campaigns and youth-centric programs, we work to strengthen  protective factors, reduce risk, and
    build resilience.
  • Medication Safety and Opioid Response: Since 2021, we have distributed over 4,000
Deterra drug deactivation pouches and more than 1,000 life-saving Narcan kits. These efforts respond directly to the growing concerns of prescription drug misuse and opioid overdoses, making a tangible difference in our community.
  • Community Events and Take-Back Initiatives: Our bi-annual DEA Prescription Drug Take Back events, hosted in collaboration with the DEA, local law enforcement, and community partners, have safely collected over 1,240 pounds of unused medications
since 2021. These events reduce the risk of misuse and accidental ingestion while also
    protecting the environment.

Strength Through Collaboration

Our monthly community meetings bring together local partners to exchange insights, collaborate on strategies, and plan upcoming events. These gatherings ensure that our initiatives remain current, informed by the latest data, and adapt to the evolving needs of our community. Whether it’s through local needs assessments or regular data updates, our approach stays flexible and targeted.

Looking Ahead

Our future vision centers on sustainability, growth, and deeper community empowerment. We are working toward transitioning Nassau County Coalition into an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a move that will provide greater flexibility and strengthen our capacity for long-term impact. By diversifying funding sources, securing grants, and fostering sponsorships, we aim to ensure that current and future programs continue to thrive and expand.

With every project, outreach effort, and partnership, we are driven by the belief that collaboration can transform lives. Our goal is to nurture a culture of prevention, mental wellness, and resilience, ensuring that every resident of Nassau County feels supported and empowered.

Join us as we continue our journey toward a future where community connection, education, and comprehensive health support lead the way to a brighter, healthier Nassau County.
